Just some quick notes to get you going for your weekend…

#1. Use ointments containing herbal ingredients

Studies have shown that creams containing natural and herbal ingredients such as aloe vera help to reduce swelling. What this means for you is a soothing sensation which will also help to control outbreaks of eczema. However, it’s important that you regularly moisturizer throughout the day as dry skin will only worsen the symptoms and may cause more severe scratching.

#2. lower stress levels and eat healthy meals.

A weakened immune system can easily trigger symptoms of eczema and studies have shown that high levels of stress and a poor diet can contribute to this. Keeping your body protected against stress is important so consider implementing techniques such as yoga or meditation. Be sure to exercise regularly in addition to having a healthy diet so your body gets the essential vitamins and minerals it needs to increase immune levels.

The Wiki on Dyshidrosis

// July 28th, 2009 // No Comments » // definitions

Dyshidrosis, also termed Dyshidrotic Eczema, Pompholyx, Acute vesiculobullous hand eczema,[1] and Dyshidrotic Dermatitis, is a skin condition that is characterized by small blisters on the hands or feet. It is an acute, chronic, or recurrent dermatosis of the fingers, palms, and soles, characterized by a sudden onset of many deep-seated pruritic, clear vesicles; later, scaling, fissures and lichenification occur. Recurrence is common and for many can be chronic. Incidence/Prevalence is said to be 20/100,000 in the United States, however, many cases of eczema are diagnosed as garden-variety atopic eczema without further investigation, so it is possible this figure is misleading.

This condition is not contagious to others, but due to its unsightly nature can cause significant distress in regards to social interactions with others.

The name comes from the word “dyshidrotic,” meaning “bad sweating,” which was once believed to be the cause but this association is unproven; there are many cases present that have no history of excessive sweating. There are a number of different factors which may trigger the outbreak of dyshidrosis such as allergens, stress or seasonal changes. Emotional stress may also further aggravate the condition.

Walking, running, jumping, skipping - these are but a handful of activities our feet do, yet most of the time we take them for granted. That is, until we get an infection. While our feet are sturdy — containing 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments and 19 muscles — they are susceptible to disease.

The skin between the toes is soft, supple and often moist; while the skin on the heel is firm and the undersurface of the forefoot is tough enough to take consistent pounding but flexible enough to bend. It’s important then to take steps to ensure the skin of your feet remains healthy.
